Code rot
From Rotpedia, the decaying encyclopedia
Code rot is Gen Alpha TikTok slang for anything that glitches, as if the code running the world were rotting.[1] If it breaks, freezes or does something it shouldn't, it's code rotted.[2] The term spread from one broken filter game to millions of views in about three weeks, and adults started making videos asking what their kids were talking about.[6]
1Origin
On 13 October 2026 a TikTok filter game broke on camera. The player was supposed to be stopped by gates. Instead they ran straight through every one of them. The account @diaryofawimpykidfan01 posted it and called it "code rotted." That video passed 600,000 views in nine days.
The joke was simple: the game was not lagging, it was decaying. Kids took the word and pointed it at everything else that stopped working.

"Yep, it's code rotted indeed."The meme's catchphrase.
Know Your Meme lists code rot as Confirmed. Later videos asked whether it was getting worse[3] and declared it was taking over the world.[5] Roblox clips about it reached a ninth part.[4]
